Austin has definitely made it to the oral fixation stage of his development. He’s starting to get pretty good with his hands, and the moment he gets a good grip on anything (toy, sleeve, hair, teether) it goes straight into his mouth. Eagerly.
Here’s a little video which combines some self-imposed tummy time (he rolled over on his own) with the oral fixation. He sucks the cup, he sucks the rings, he sucks his hands, he sucks his lip, he drools, he blows little raspberries…this video has it all.
He’s still doing a bunch of communicating with his tongue, as well. He’ll stick it out on his own when he’s feeling silly, but you can also prompt him to do it by showing him yours. Amanda took this photo from the hip and caught him in the middle of a chubby-cheek tongue display:
