Austin is now officially weaned! Amanda nursed him for the last time on Wednesday morning the 18th, and hasn’t pumped since. There was a significant backlog of milk in the freezer, so Austin has been getting milk at school for a few days…but that is all gone now too. He’s now getting formula and oatmeal…further solid foods have been purchased and are waiting for us to introduce them. Austin will be six months old next weekend, so we’ll probably start with the simple pureed baby food then…unless we or Austin get anxious before then. 
Adria was fully weaned on 5/29/2009, which was nearly 5 months…and almost all of that was pumping and bottle feeding. Austin has gone a couple of weeks longer. It has been significantly easier with him, since the latch worked out and Amanda has gotten to be a pro at breast feeding. Still, although she already misses the snuggle time with Austin, she’s looking forward to getting more of her life back: her lunch hour, freedom to eat (and drink) what she wants, take over-the-counter medication, more freedom to exercise, the ability to share evening duties with me, hormone re-balance, and more. It has been a good run, and I’m proud of Amanda for making it work and sticking with it for so long. We think that Austin is going to be a good eater, and we’re looking forward to moving to the next stage.
