Here is a video of Ali and Thrace from today!
Ali, Colin, and Thrace flew to Richmond to spend Christmas with the Vaughan family. Here are a couple of highlight photos of Thrace with the family and all dec’d out for Christmas! ![]()
For better versions of the landscape photos (which have been reduced in width to fit the blog), browse for these photos on Planet Vaughan or shoot me an e-mail.
It’s hard to see in the picture above, but Ali and Colin have ‘taught’ Trace to mimic sticking out your tongue…I’ve got evidence in this photo.
Thrace’s first visit with the Kansas Kemper Clan the week before Thanksgiving, 2007.

On Friday, November 16th we all loaded up the Honda and went to DIA for Thrace’s first airplane ride. We flew on Southwest to Kansas City to meet Kit, Don, and all of the Kemper side of the family. Thrace was great on the plane trip, he was so busy eating he had no clue he was at 30,000 ft. We landed Friday night and got to Terry and Gina’s around 10 PM after a brief stop at Mimi’s Cafe. Gina & Terry were kind enough to let us stay with them at their place despite the noise. They even laid out Elise’s baby bassinet for Thrace, which fit him perfectly.
The next morning we went over to Ma’s place to introduce her to Thrace. We had lunch in Ma’s dining room with the whole family. After lunch it was back up to Ma’s apartment for some football, conversation, and photos. From there is was over to Betsy & Steve’s place to hang out, watch football, and have an awesome pizza dinner from Godfather’s (I wish they hadn’t left Denver).
The next morning was a bit rough. Ali & I were supposed to go to church but we missed it due to a lack of sleep.
We did make it just in time for brunch and Cindy & Steve’s house where we had a spread worthy of Thanksgiving dinner. We were told it was just a dry run, as they were getting ready to do it all again on Thanksgiving Day. We also, somehow, found time to watch a little football. ![]()
We had a great time in Kansas City. Thanks to everyone for coming to see us, host us, and having us over for meals and entertainment. We can’t wait to come back!

Drew came out to meet his new nephew November 8th. We had a good time introducing him to diaper changes, feeding schedules, and melt downs. Thrace had one rough day and a couple of good days while Drew was here. We hung out at home with a few errands on Friday & Saturday. On Sunday we took a little trip to Lookout Mountain Park via Blackhawk, CO. It turns out our GPS (nicknamed “Geepers") plots the fastest way to a park, but doesn’t acknowledge that you need a road to enter. We drove up US 6 about 10 miles through a narrow canyon only to watch our little car on the GPS run through one corner of the park. We had arrived at our destination, but with 100′ walls on either side we weren’t getting in.
Needless to say I had some choice words for Geepers. Since Ali and Thrace were asleep in the back seat, Drew and I decided to keep going up the canyon to an old mining town turned into Denver’s gambling playground, Blackhawk. Ali awoke a little surprised to see casinos all around her but we all had a good time. About two hours later we arrived at Lookout Mountain Park, where they have great views of Denver and the surrounding Rockies, not to mention the final resting place of William Cody aka Buffalo Bill.
On Sunday night we all went to my favorite restaurant, La Cueva, for a Birthday Celebration for my Aunt Sue. Happy Birthday Sue! ![]()
On a side note, if the pictures are cropped strange or you can’t see all of a picture, try a different skin from the menu to the right.

I’m back from my visit with Ali, Colin, and Thrace, and I’ve posted the photos from my visit to an album on Planet Vaughan. Take a look here.
Here are a few photos from my visit with Ali, Colin, and Thrace (still ongoing!)

Several more photos from both Kit and Becca’s visits to Denver have been posted here on Planet Vaughan. Some of the photos below are included there, but there are several that are new as well.
Here are all the posts (News Updates) that I did on CarePages in the first few weeks. I will look over the pictures and see if there are any that should be moved over from CarePages, but this pretty much wraps up the data migration.
We had a lot of Trick or Treaters last night and Thrace got to hand out some candy. Most people were more excited to see Roman, they all thought he had some extravagant hair cut. Nope, just the result of a bilateral femoral osteotomy. Roman seems to be improving each day, today he made his first standing jump to get up the step into our house.
Grandma Vaughan was around for about the first two weeks of Thrace’s life, and here are a few pictures from the early days that we are finally posting. There are photos of Thrace’s first time in his crib, his first walk in the stroller, his first visit to his Dad’s work….
Don’t forget to scroll down, there’s a new post from Colin and Ali with fresh pictures, just below this one!
Although we’re laying low for Halloween, Thrace is showing off his new outfit. We’re going to watch a little television, read a book, and go to bed. This is Thrace’s first holiday, he’s 22 days old. He has a slight stomach bug and has had a few rough nights. Well, actually, as the sign in his nursery says, “When I’m not sleeping, nobody’s sleeping". Little did we know how true that is. We’ve all been a little short on sleep.
Thrace went to the doctor today and they expect he’ll get over this bug in 24 - 48 hours. For the most part though, he’s a trooper. He does his best to stay in high spirits.
Yesterday he gave me his first smile in direct response to me. I was giving him a huge grin, telling him to smile and laughing, when he actually did it! He gave me a huge smile and a little coo. People always talk about how miserable they are when their kids are little. I’m not feeling miserable, just tired, and I wouldn’t miss it for the world.
Happy Halloween!

I don’t know what Mom just said, but apparently it’s being met with some suspicion.
Well, I’m finally getting around to the transfer from CarePages to Drew’s nicer blog. We want to use Drew’s blog as a permanent way of showing everyone Thrace as he grows up. So, I’m starting the initial transfer of information from the Hospital’s blog (CarePages) to this format. The first step in the migration is to post CarePages’ message board here.
It’s pretty cool to go back and read all of your comments. I was reading them to Ali at the hospital as they would come in. It really lifted our spirits to hear so many people cheering her on. Thanks! ![]()

Becca took a few of her precious personal days off from teaching to visit Ali, Colin, and Thrace. She sent me a few photos of the baby to post…
Tonight we got the web cam working (at least on Ali & Colin’s end) so that Amanda and I could see baby Thrace ‘live’, and watch him move (and hear him cry!). He’s adorable, we can’t wait to meet him in person. Here are a few captures I took from the video while we were chatting.

At last, baby Thrace has a web album of photos on the main page of Planet Vaughan. Click here or on the teaser photo below to jump to the Planet.
This is the second batch of photos to be posted, see the previous post for more. Also see Ali & Colin’s CarePage for potentially more up-to-date information (Click here for instructions on the CarePage if needed).

Thanks to Sue DeLeon, we now have a few photos of Thrace to satisfy our curiosity until Ali and Colin have a few minutes to post more. Enjoy!
Here’s a photo from early in the day on the 9th….before Thrace was born!
